Lasik Surgery Helps Baseball Player

The St. Petersburg Times has an interesting story about Minnesota Twins outfielder Denard Span and lasik surgery. Span credits lasik surgery and his resulting vision improvement with helping him reach the major leagues. According to the article:

“Span credits the procedure, which he had in Tampa during the offseason, for a .340 batting average at AAA Rochester that earned him a promotion and a new life in the majors, where he continues to play well (.316, 2 HRs, 16 RBIs in 44 games) for the Twins.”

The popularity of lasik surgery with professional athletes seems to be increasing and Span’s story is a good illustration of why that is. If having lasik treatment can mean the difference between being a career minor league journeyman and a major league regular, then I am sure more ballplayers and sports figures will opt for the surgery.
